Quincy School Committee
Policy Subcommittee Meeting

A meeting of the Policy Subcommittee was held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 6:00 pm in the Coddington Building. Present were Mayor Thomas P. Koch, Mr. Anthony Andronico, Mr. Douglas Gutro, Mrs. Kathryn Hubley, Mrs. Emily Lebo, and Mr. Paul Bregoli, Subcommittee Vice-Chair. Also attending were Superintendent DeCristofaro, Deputy Superintendent Kevin Mulvey, and Mr. James Mullaney.

Mr. Bregoli called the Policy Subcommittee meeting to order at 6:00 pm.

A draft of School Committee meeting dates for 2019-2020 was presented.

Mr. Gutro asked about holding meetings at schools other than Central Middle School. Dr. DeCristofaro said that in the past, School Committee has met at school sites, but that the acoustics are often an issue and made it difficult for the Committee to hear each other during the meetings.

Mr. Andronico made a motion to accept the 2019-2020 School Committee Meeting calendar as presented. Mrs. Hubley seconded the motion and on a voice vote, the ayes have it.

A draft of the School Year Calendar for 2019-2020 was shared.

Mayor Koch noted that for the next school year calendar, there will be a Presidential election in November, which would be a no-school day as was done in 2012 and 2016.

Mr. Andronico made a motion to accept the School Year Calendar for 2019-2020 as presented. Mrs. Hubley seconded the vote and on a voice vote, the ayes have it.

Both calendars will appear on the February 6, 2019 School Committee meeting for discussion and be eligible for a vote on March 6, 2019.

Mr. Bregoli noted that in 2020, Labor Day will be on September 7 and would like to discuss that school year calendar in Fall 2019 so evaluation of potentially starting before Labor Day can be completed.

Mrs. Hubley made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:05 pm. Mr. Andronico seconded the motion and on a voice vote, the ayes have it.
