
What are the school hours?
The school day begins at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m. for all K-5 students. Wednesday dismissal is at 11:25 a.m. Since school personnel are not available to supervise, children may not arrive at the building until 7:30 a.m.
Do you serve breakfast? How much do breakfast and lunch cost?
Students are given the opportunity to receive a school breakfast, lunch, and/or milk, as part of their daily routine. Governor Baker signed a bill earlier this summer extending the free school lunch and breakfast program for the 2022-2023 school year. Lunch and breakfast will be free for ALL students again this year.
QPS strongly encourages parents/guardians to continue to complete the free and reduced lunch application this year in order to receive other benefits from the state, including P-EBT benefits. Menus and applications can be found on the QPS Food Service website.
Breakfast will be served each morning before classes begin.
Lunch will be served in the cafeteria during your child’s assigned class time.
What is the homework policy?
The homework policy for each grade level is clearly listed in the Student's Rights and Responsibility handbook which goes home each year.
Are after-school programs available?
After-school programs are offered to students on some afternoons from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Staff members plan, organize, and notify parents of current opportunities from which to choose. Participants are selected on a space available basis by lottery.
Is daycare available for children after school?
Quincy After School Child Care (QCARE) provides enriching, licensed care each weekday from the time that the final bell rings until 5:30 p.m. Participants can enroll in the program for each afternoon or as little as two afternoons per week. The program is not operated by QPS. Therefore, you must call the QCARE main office at 617-773-3299 to speak with a Program Director to register or visit their website for more information including tuition fees and registration information at www.quincyafterschool.org
What is the curriculum that is taught?
The Merrymount School utilizes Massachusetts' Curriculum Frameworks and Quincy's Design for Learning to develop academic goals and creative instructional strategies that are responsive to the individual needs of students.
How is the curriculum applied in the classroom?
Our teachers utilize an inquiry-based, approach to learning. This approach emphasizes hands-on experiential instructional strategies that assist children in the problem-solving process. Our ultimate aim is to have children apply these problem-solving skills, not only in the classroom, but also in their daily lives.
